Disease Alert Systems

The prediction of plant diseases has emerged as a well-established component of epidemiology that is rapidly being incorporated into disease management. Plant disease decision support systems are management tools to aid growers in assessing the risk of disease epidemics on their farms. The use of such a system enables growers to apply their fungicides only when the conditions are favorable for disease so that they can avoid unnecessary sprays and reduce production costs.

EnsoAg partners have successfully implemented several disease alert systems including systems to help strawberry growers manage Botrytis and anthracnose fruit rot diseases, peanut growers manage leaf spot, and citrus growers improve the application of copper applications by indicating when copper residues are too low and fruits are unprotected.
